REACHE builds a bridge for Kapurtay community

11/14/2014

REACHE members, with support from University of Minnesota's Lloyd A. Wilford Endowment, built a new bridge over the Nyando River at the base of Kapurtay Hill, Kisumu County, Kenya. The old bridge (see below) was barely passable and a danger to both community members and researchers. With a new bridge in place, excavation commenced in the Lower Kapurtay Agglomerates resulting in dozens of new fossil mammals including cranial remains of Rangwapithecus.
